Life as a mom is full of constant motion. Between work, chores, school runs, sports, clubs, and unexpected events, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The busyness can pull us away from what matters most, including our relationship with God. Sometimes the distractions don’t come from obvious negative influences but from the everyday demands that fill our calendars. This post explores how to recognize these distractions and intentionally make space for God, even in the busiest seasons of motherhood.

The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty. Proverbs 21:5.
Recognizing the Hidden Distractions
The devil doesn’t always use bad things to keep us from God. Often, he uses the good things that fill our days. For moms, this means the work schedule, daily chores, and the endless surprises that come with family life. Add to that the kids’ school activities—sports practices, club meetings, and special events—and the calendar quickly fills up.
These distractions are not inherently bad. Taking care of family and responsibilities is important. But when these tasks consume all our time and energy, they can push God to the margins of our lives. The challenge is to spot when busyness becomes a barrier to spiritual growth.
I have to work on this every day. Just today, I glanced back at last month's calendar and couldn't believe how much I accomplished. But now, as I'm sitting here writing and looking around the house at everything still left to do, the list just keeps growing. And with school starting soon, it's only going to get crazier.
Sometimes putting God first means giving up other things. We just faced this because the activity was scheduled for some Sundays. I really want my kids to understand that God comes first. So, we had to skip this activity. It might not have been our first choice, but it was the right thing to do.
Making God a Priority in a Busy Life
Finding God amidst the chaos has to be intentional. It means making a conscious choice to put God first, even when everything else screams for attention.
Treat your time with God as a non-negotiable appointment. Whether it’s early morning, during a lunch break, or after the kids are asleep, block out time for prayer, reading scripture, or meditation. Protect this time as you would a doctor’s visit or work meeting.
A few minutes in the car before school drop-off, waiting during practice, or even while cooking can become moments to connect with God through prayer or listening to worship music.
Make faith a family activity. Pray together before meals, read a Bible story at bedtime, or attend church as a family. This not only strengthens your relationship with God but also models faith for your children.
It’s tempting to say yes to every opportunity for your kids, but over-scheduling can drain your energy and time. Choose activities wisely and don’t be afraid to say no when the calendar is too full.
Overcoming Guilt and Finding Grace
Many moms feel guilty when they can’t do it all or when their spiritual life feels neglected. It’s important to remember that God understands our struggles and offers grace. Faith isn’t about perfection but about seeking God sincerely, even in small ways.
When you miss a quiet time or feel distracted, don’t give up. Each day is a new chance to refocus and invite God into your busy life.
Embracing God’s Peace in the Midst of Chaos
Finding God in busy seasons doesn’t mean eliminating all activity. It means embracing God’s peace no matter what is happening around you. When you make God your priority, you gain strength to handle the chaos with calm and confidence.
Remember, your worth is not measured by how busy you are but by your relationship with God. Let that relationship be your anchor.
Busy seasons will come and go, but the choice to seek God remains constant. By recognizing distractions, setting priorities, and embracing grace, you can find God’s presence even in the busiest moments of motherhood and everyday life. Take a moment today to pause, breathe, and invite God into your chaos. That connection will sustain you through every challenge and joy ahead. Remember you are not alone going though this! Always put God first and you can't go wrong!
